80分鐘死亡續播 VS 午夜靈異錄像 + 不敗雄心 + 秋田犬八千

80分鐘死亡續播 [REC] 2

[REC] 2 creatively transforms a zombie movie into a different genre and challenges our preconceptions about zombies. Besides, it is more exciting and frightening than REC because there are more actions and more points of view. In addition, the teenage boy plays his role convincingly and the ending is unpredictable.

Another movie, Paranormal Activity, was also shot with a shaky camera from the first person’s point of view. I personally find it less impressive than both REC and [REC] 2, which require the audience to think after watching the film, especially REC.

Before watching [REC] 2, everyone SHOULD watch REC first. May I also kindly remind you to beware of spoilers in discussion forums before you watch it? Enjoy this roller coaster ride! 4 / 5

午夜靈異實錄 Paranormal Activity

Rotten Tomatoes (84% Fresh): Using its low-budget effects and mockumentary method to great result, Paranormal Activity turns a very simple haunted house story into 90 minutes of relentless suspense.

Kenji (3.5 / 5): I do recommend this independent movie which proves that waiting can be terrifying and a successful ghost story does not necessarily show a ghost, but Cloverfield and REC are more impressive because of, respectively, the CG images added to a shaky camera and the need to THINK after watching the movie. Three different endings (Spoiler Warning): http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=4675248

不敗雄心 Invictus

Nominated for 3 Golden Globes, Invictus is Clint Eastwood’s new film about a true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of South Africa's rugby team to help unite their country which is racially divided.

This movie is uplifting and nicely acted. There are some memorable quotes and people will be touched by Mandela’s story. The competitions are also beautifully shot.

However, it seems to me that the South Africa's rugby team becomes very strong suddenly. Besides, the captain of the team does not experience much personal growth.

On the whole, if you love rugby or are interested in the history of South Africa, I recommend this film to you. Comparatively speaking, I still prefer Changeling and Gran Torino. 3.5 / 5

秋田犬八千 Hachiko: A Dog's Story

Based on a true story, Hachiko: A Dog's Story is a simple story about royalty. The ending is so moving because of the clock, the sad look on the dog’s face and the heart wrenching music that some members of the audience will burst into tears.

However, I have to agree with an IMDB user that no character is explored deeply and the passage of time is portrayed very poorly, with nearly 10 years passing and few physical alterations made in any human character. Besides, I also think the picking-the-ball idea can be further developed. Does it only mean his desire to be loved? I personally prefer 10 Promises to My Dog and Marley and Me. 3 / 5
