Indeed, the visually stunning cinematography capturing the beautiful nature in different ways, the girl's personal growth and the foxes' lives engaged me throughout the whole film. U had better watch the 3D version. 3.5 / 5 Cyborg She - I enjoyed it despite the ending which drags. Not sure how you feel this time. You know, some love Japanese films, while some dislike the style. Then you should listen to my show again and see if you like my analysis. ^^ 一個人的奧林匹克 - I have not seen it. A moving documentary?

I'm just afraid that it'd be off by this weekend~~~ If not, I would definitely go to BC and see it this weekend!!! Wish me luck... [版主回覆08/20/2008 14:38:00]Good Luck!!! The reviews of this film in HK are very positive. Be prepared that the film is slow-paced, though.

(The Begging-for-Typhoon Ceremony is being held!!!)
Finally watched it yesterday, when the compliants of my grumpy ankle quiet down a bit. There was a dejavu moment at the beginning; it's as if the story evolves out of the Little Prince but soon takes on a wonderful life on its own, one full of fun, one that exudes colors in various shades! It's a shame that the girl and the renard cannot fit 'happily ever after' into each other's habitant. But it can't be helped, I guess... I do believe that the renard has taken to the girl near the end when she climbs all the way down from the mountains to her porch, and out of the blue! Renard must also be curious, like the girl, to have a sneak peep at her friend's other life. Poor renard, she never expects to be traped! Poor girl, it's never her intention to agitate or harm her friend! But the memories of their time together won't be wasted. Memories will live on and pass on to the generations to come, as shown in the end... [版主回覆08/22/2008 11:19:00]Spoiler Warning Yes... the story is simple, beautiful and educational. The film shows us how the mother nature works.
(continue) It's also interesting to see that the boy and the mother understand the renard (love the sound of this word! )differently. The mother thinks that the renard no longer trusts her cos she severed the tie between them the moment she unthinkingly closed the bedroom door, this implies that, as a grown-up, she believes animals are capable of trust, but not love. Renard will not return her love. Her son, however, keeps up a cheerful spirit, thinks the renard can love (does it mean he thinks the renard loved his mum?).
This difference prompts me to ponder over the relationship between men and their pets; lots of pet owners are amazed that their dogs/cats are like psychics, they often sense the owners' moods, and are there to offer due comfort. Are our dogs/cats capable of caring for 'aliens' (probably what humans are in their eye)? Are they showing that they care when they come nuzzling and purring against our legs? Or is it simply that they pick up the usual signs of bad mood - our dull tone, the constant heavy breathing and footsteps, and so wander over to do the usual tricks -to make things/us normal again? What is it? Can science tell us? But even if it can, I don't really want to know. There're forbidden zones, just like the girl learns that summer, when renard turns her red tail and never comes back...
[版主回覆08/22/2008 11:33:00]I personally think the LOVE is still there, but the fact is that their lives are very different and the fox may be scared by the locked area. 6 years ago, I studied English in Scotland for 6 weeks. I stayed in a host family in which there is a dog called Nancy. I talked to her every day in English of course haha... and on my LAST day in Scotland, Nancy suddenly jumped onto my lap and looked at me. I was surprised and the mother in the family told me that Nancy would miss me because she knew I was going when she SAW my luggage in the doorway. At that moment, I could not help crying because I knew I would not see Nancy and the family again in my life. Nancy indeed did not need to cuddle me and please me as I was not the one who fed her. So her last move touched me a lot and since then I believe Nancy knew things.
(continue) The film also stirred me to reconsider the idea of zoo - do we need them? 熊貓館、鯊魚館 suddenly looked awfully selfish and evil, particulary so when I saw the ending credit and the names of the foxes - et les renards! It was an immensely touching moment cos the crew expressed their thanks and respect for the cute animals. Btw, thanks for letting us know the foxes were properly cared for during the filming; I was so disturbed after one fell off the window and laid in a pool of blood, motionless. This is the reason I didn't watch 赤壁 ; horses come kneeling down in front of the camera is too much for me. Do you know if that's special effect? Hope so And here's the bit in Little Prince where the renard muses on the art and magic of taming, if you're interested. I think it's brilliant. The Little Prince [版主回覆08/22/2008 11:22:00]Hey thanks for raising this interesting points. Did they show the names of ALL the foxes in the film in the credit??? Wow... I'm impressed by their respect to animals. Don't worry. The motionless one should be a prop or a trained fox.
hey, about the credit to the renards. Yes a, I think they did name them in the ending credit, at least what I saw was 'et les renards: ' (and the foxes), followed by two or three lines and along those lines, there were one or two names as far as I could see. (you know the credit just flies up up up, and it's in french ma) Humph! can't believe I wept over the bloody prop Hahaha, but I was so glad to no no renards were hurt delibrately. Btw, this is just a sidekick; in this movie and Little Prince, foxes are gentle, trusting, lovely creatures whereas we demonize them as 狐狸精,狐妖 . How curious! [版主回覆08/23/2008 13:19:00]Right... perhaps foxes are just animals which struggle a lot to survive... Indeed we humans are cunning sometimes.
YES!!! I've seen it, and I loved it!!! I haven't seen something quite like this!!! Very good film, combining drama and documentary successfully~~~ Oh, the cinematography is really breath-taking! The film got such a realistic and natural feel to it, dunno why?! The pace is ok for me, not really too slow honestly. And I like the music throughout the film, and the song at the end credits. Charming, refreshing, and with some very good messages!!! Glad that I didn't miss it at the theatre~~ [版主回覆08/25/2008 17:55:00]So happy for you... saw it during the typhoon??? Do you think it will be one of your top 10 films this year??? It will be one of my top 20. The film is called Le Renard et L'Enfant in French. The song is Windy Whistle by Alice Lewis. I love it very much!!! Once again it is a pity that not many people have heard of it haha...
Yeah! I saw it during typhoon~~~ I didn't see many films this year, so I guess it could well be in my top 10 list! I agree that not many people even noticed this film......too bad~~~ Anyway, you've done your job! [版主回覆08/26/2008 15:05:00]Wow... it is also in Tung Tung's top 10 list!!! You guys really have TASTE ^^ HAHA!!! Thanks!
I am so happy that many people like “The Fox and The Child” Let me introduce another movie in my “Top 10 Favorites in 2008” It is “ 天水圍的日與夜 ”, a masterpiece from Ann Hui. I must admit that I could not help crying during the show. It is really touching. Hope you all enjoy it.
[版主回覆08/28/2008 01:12:00]Tung Tung: I love both films. BUT I have to wait for 4 more months so that I can finalize my top 10 movies list. 天水圍的日與夜 has a good cast. The characters and lines are memorable. A small film with a big heart. I also love the film, but somehow I think it can also be a story about the residents of Sham Shui Po or a story about the people living at Tun Mum. What do you think?
Yes, me too. My list of "Top 10" is still prelim and will not be finalized until Dec-31. I agree that the story of “ 天水圍的日與夜 ” can be happened in Sham Sui Po or anywhere. But to me, no mater where the story is, it is still a good movie. [版主回覆08/29/2008 13:11:00]AGREE!!!

[版主回覆08/22/2008 11:22:00]Hey thanks for raising this interesting points.
(you know the credit just flies up up up, and it's in french ma)
回覆刪除Humph! can't believe I wept over the bloody prop Hahaha, but I was so glad to no no renards were hurt delibrately.
回覆刪除Very good film, combining drama and documentary successfully~~~
Oh, the cinematography is really breath-taking!
The film got such a realistic and natural feel to it, dunno why?!
The pace is ok for me, not really too slow honestly.
And I like the music throughout the film, and the song at the end credits.
Charming, refreshing, and with some very good messages!!! Glad that I didn't miss it at the theatre~~
[版主回覆08/25/2008 17:55:00]So happy for you... saw it during the typhoon??? Do you think it will be one of your top 10 films this year??? It will be one of my top 20. The film is called Le Renard et L'Enfant in French. The song is Windy Whistle by Alice Lewis. I love it very much!!! Once again it is a pity that not many people have heard of it haha...
Yeah! I saw it during typhoon~~~
回覆刪除I didn't see many films this year, so I guess it could well be in my top 10 list!
I agree that not many people even noticed this film......too bad~~~
Anyway, you've done your job!
[版主回覆08/26/2008 15:05:00]Wow... it is also in Tung Tung's top 10 list!!! You guys really have TASTE ^^ HAHA!!! Thanks!
I am so happy that many people like “The Fox and The Child”
回覆刪除Let me introduce another movie in my “Top 10 Favorites in 2008”
It is “ 天水圍的日與夜 ”, a masterpiece from Ann Hui.
回覆刪除I agree that the story of “ 天水圍的日與夜 ” can be happened in Sham Sui Po or anywhere. But to me, no mater where the story is, it is still a good movie.
[版主回覆08/29/2008 13:11:00]AGREE!!!
