My favorite film this year is the Act of Killing.

Not many Hong Kong people have watched it

as it was released in a film festival. The trailer can be watched below:

In 1965 and 1966, a million communists were killed in Indonesia.

The Act of Killing is a documentary in which former Indonesian death-squad leaders

make a movie about their real-life mass-killings.

These killers tell the horrible stories so lightly and proudly.

Still protected by the Indonesian government as national heroes,

they claim that war crimes are defined by winners.

Have they brainwashed themselves and suppressed their conscience?

How do they rationalize their act of killing?

Are they still unconsciously haunted by guilt?

As a movie maniac, never have I watched a documentary like this one.

The co-director, as well as over 20 other members of the film crew,

are credited as 'anonymous' because they still fear revenge.

Whenever I think about this film, the following adjectives flash across my mind:

unique, creative, surreal, jaw-dropping, nightmarish, disturbing, harrowing…

The Act of Killing is a documentary which looks like

a psychodrama, a horror movie, a gangster film, a musical and a nightmare.

The ending is jaw-dropping and very disturbing.

Movie lovers, it is a must-see.

2013 is going to be over.

I have been a bit upset since, owing to my work,

I am unable to go blogging as often as I used to be.

After all, I have more responsibilities in my workplace and

there are some dreams I am in pursuit of.

In 2013, I have watched 93 movies in cinemas.

The movies released this year are MORE impressive than the 2012 ones.
