Dear all, there are indeed MANY GOOD films this year and
I am thrilled at this great occasion in the movie industry.
Since it is often criticized that the results are political and
some movies e.g. Cloud Atlas, Flight, etc, are snubbed,
I am more interested in what films are nominated than what the results are.
Anyway, please rank the Best Picture nominees. It is subjective, but fun! ^-^

P.S. The underlined films = winners
P.S. Every singing performance in the show deeply touched me and brought tears to my eyes.
P.S. My likes are similar to the ones of the Oscars this year!
P.S. Quentin Tarantino is right. The screenplays this year are superb.
P.S. Ang Lee made a mistake by saying he did not want to waste time thanking every member in the cast, but I thought he did not mean it.
P.S. Ang Lee thanked the "Movie God", instead of "God"!!!

  1. And exhausting to watch 4 Oscar films in two days ... zzz
Tommy Lee Jones is good in Lincoln. I also like Jessica in 030. Her performance is impressive.
That's why I don't have the time to think about what HKIFF films I wanna watch. I will do so in the coming week. I love Jessica and the movie is very exciting and realistic. I love it. As for the best supporting actor, Christoph Waltz steals the thunder and I love the chemistry between the two male leads.

It is really a pity. At the age of 84, she may not have another chance to get an Oscar. Besides, her acting is very convincing. 2. I have not seen Brave, but many people say that it is just average. The other three animations that I have watched are very impressive. I would say this is a year of animations. I really do not understand why it gets the Oscar and Golden Globe.
02/26/2013 12:25:27]I also hoped they would win and they did. I was so excited.
02/25/2013 22:59:02]Me too. I am so happy!!! I screamed when Christopher Waltz won. QT? Really? I am still watching the re-run.
[版主回覆02/23/2013 13:34:33]Two weeks ago, I watched Life of Pi again and after further understanding the message of the film, I fell in love with it. I also hope that he will get the best director award. As for Cloud Atlas, it consists of six stories of different genres, which is fun. The editing, production design and make-up are superb. The magnificent music score which fits the ambitious theme simply blows me away. What touches me most is the big message of the movie. Human beings keep making the same mistakes i.e. discrimination. It is really a pity that it does not have any nomination.

Daniel Day-Lewis
    女角Jessica Chastain
    男配Christoph Waltz
[版主回覆03/04/2013 12:24:29](Written by an IMDB user) I love this movie because you'd think coming to the theatre that this would be a celebratory movie about the defeat of UBL but instead the whole movie collapses to a life of a very sad woman. It's really sad to see that this Maya character have been so consumed to chase this terrorist that she hasn't made a life of her own which is to have friends or have a family. The ending really tells us something about the consequences of vengeance and that revenge ultimately hurts us more than it gives us satisfaction in life. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
[版主回覆03/04/2013 12:02:38](Written by an IMDB user) Considering that it was strongly implied the CIA recruited her out of high school to do one task, once that task was finished she basically no longer had a career. Sure, they might reassign her somewhere else, but it still was her entire professional life.
[版主回覆03/04/2013 12:01:00](Written by an IMDB user) Her crying expression was darker and way more depressing than an athlete cry after wining a competition. The last show meant to represent a kind of sadness and emptiness that was caused by obsession and going over the DARK side to achieve that obsession. zero DARK thirty means 12:30 am, but it also has a second meaning.
[版主回覆03/04/2013 11:57:54](Written by an IMDB user) It seemed to me more like the main character didn't have a life outside of pursuing Bin Laden. After she had gotten what she wanted she had nothing else in her life. The hunt was over and she had nothing to go back to.
[版主回覆03/04/2013 11:57:26](Written by an IMDB user) This film had a very similar ending as the Social Network Work: The main character finally gets what she wants but not what she needs. she is sitting alone in an airplane crying her eyes out. Mark in Social Network Work gets what he wants and he is the most successful man of his on earth, yet he is sitting alone in a room refreshing facebook. Both characters were obsessed with something while crossing morality lines that would eventually make them not feel good about their successes.
[版主回覆03/04/2013 11:49:20]Perhaps... but when she sees the corpse, she does not cry. It seems to me that she gets confused. The man with bombs dies on the spot and she is not sure if taking revenge is meaningful. In front her is just a corpse she has been working very hard for years in order to see.
[The Teacher回覆03/04/2013 00:49:17]I interpreted her tears at the end as tears of joy...
I love both performances indeed. (SPOILER WARNING) I love the last scene in Zero Dark Thirty. Her crying shows that she loses the purpose in life and perhaps she is wondering if his death can end all the sufferings and terrorists' attacks. At least she can never bring her best friend back. A moving performance right.
Daniel Day-Lewis - totally agree!!! Bradley Cooper and Joaquin Phoenix are very good too. Still, Daniel Day-Lewis is very experienced and influential. It is likely that he will win, which is not what I want to happen. I hope more recognition can be given to to other three actors.

Jessica Chastain is very good, but so is Jennifer Lawrence, who has got the SAG's nod and the Golden Globe Best Actress Award. At the age of 84, Emmanuelle Riva in Amour blows me away.

Christoph Waltz simply steals the thunder. I wish him all the best.

  4. Life of P~~~
02/25/2013 13:02:03]I also like the first story because it is magical. However, I personally think the second story is true.
02/24/2013 21:52:42]i like first story
[版主回覆02/24/2013 01:10:29]I was confused by the ending for the first time. After I watched it again, I fell in love with it. The ending can be interpreted in two different ways. If one believes in the first story, one has faith in a religion. That something cannot be scientifically proven does not mean that it does not exist. If one believes in the second story, it means one is a non-believer who is willing to accept the cruel reality. Which story do you prefer? It is up to you. I like this message.

  5. I saw Zero Dark Thirty and Hitchcock consecutively. Exhausting...
03/04/2013 01:32:32]He was creative, but film makers copy his styles which are no longer new to people nowadays.
[The Teacher回覆03/04/2013 00:57:18]That's just the talk of Hollywood shortly after he died. There's no authoritative confirmation. The guy was brilliant. He's the only director who scared the hell out of audience without resorting to blood and guts, but by camera angle and background music.
03/03/2013 21:45:07]Really? Interesting!!! So he was impotent?!!! It is not shown in the movie though.
[The Teacher回覆03/03/2013 21:16:02]The word around Hollywood at the time was that he was impotent, so he tried to cover it up by drooling over all his female leads.
03/03/2013 20:59:10]I do not know much about Hitchcock, but it does not stop me from feeling, in the movie, his passion for movies and love for his wife. ^^
[chestnut girl回覆03/03/2013 07:47:35]I love Psycho, both the book and the film :)
[The Teacher回覆03/02/2013 23:31:15]Ha! you look to young to know about Hitchcock, but then again, you're film buff, just like my pal the Chestnut. So I guess you'd know. By the way, i saw the original psycho on TV one night, and it scared the hell out of me.
[版主回覆03/02/2013 22:39:10]Both are good movies. The first one is exciting and realistic. The second one is romantic and engaging. It is definitely exhausting to watch two movies in one go, especially because the first one last more than 2.5 hours.

[版主回覆03/09/2013 18:11:51]I think the screenplay is above average. It is a rom-com with a cliched ending, but I like the story in which two people with bipolar disorder help each other and the dad and mum try their best to help their boy. It is uplifting, but it does not sound very realistic. Still, there have been too many sad endings these days and a happy ending is sometimes good haha. As for the leading actress, I do like JL's performance. She plays a patient with bipolar disorder and I am totally convinced. The reason is that I know a colleague with bipolar disorder in my real life and their symptoms are very similar. Of course, as I have said Riva in Amour is better though. Please watch Amour in your spare time. I highly recommend it to you.
03/09/2013 03:03:57]hv watched Silver Linings Playbook, quite disappointed, JL is not worth winning the Oscar Best Female Leading Role.
The story line is quite weak.
03/04/2013 01:31:00]Enjoy the movie. Riva should have won!

03/09/2013 18:14:11]I think the host is cute and sings well, but his words are sometimes offensive.

  8. Thanks for the info. I'd know where to have a quick rundown of who won what at this year's Oscar. The HKIFF will be on shortly. Hurry if you haven't booked the tickets yet. But merely from the program, this year's fare seem a bit less enticing to me than those of last year. But we'll see.
03/12/2013 11:17:43]Welcome. Thanks to my friend, the tickets have been bought. I agree that the HKIFF films this year are less attractive.
